Why we want to remember Evelina London Children’s Hospital

18.03.19 Categories: Supporter stories,

This March is Free Wills Month. It's your chance to have your will written for free and to support your hospital by helping us to treat future generations of children.

Just as Julian Harding and his wife Jenny are doing.

In 2015, the couple's then three-year-old granddaughter Madison became seriously ill with kidney failure. Fortunately, after treatment including daily dialysis, surgery and platelet transfusions, her kidneys began to function again. Today, Madison receives regular check-ups at Evelina London, and her parents Jo and Matt Harlow, along with her grandparents have since become regular supporters of the hospital.

'About this time four years ago, our beautiful little granddaughter Madison was extremely poorly and fighting for her life at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.'

'It was our fortune that Maddy had such exceptionally good care at Evelina London and my family and I saw first-hand what an amazing children’s hospital it is with such an extraordinary team of dedicated and talented staff. Maddy is now doing well although she remains an outpatient at Evelina London.'

'We can never thank the Evelina enough and, to that end, my family and I started doing some fundraising activities for them, including a raffle at my tennis club in 2015 and a couple of fundraising abseils in May 2016 and May 2017.'

'My daughter, Jo (Maddy's mum) ran the London Marathon last year, and money is still trickling in! My wife and I have also done bucket collections at the Oval cricket ground and support the annual Evelina London and Guy’s hospital trust carol service each year. Jo and I have also given some Evelina presentations to school assemblies to help raise the hospital’s profile.'

'It just seemed a natural thing to do to leave some money in our wills to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, as a thank you from all of our family. We love the Evelina!'

Leaving a gift in your will, whatever the size, to our hospitals is a special way to give back.
