Joshua’s big steps for Evelina 150

14.05.19 Categories: Patient stories,

Joshua Agulnik was treated at Evelina London when he broke his elbow last December. Now the eight-year old is taking on an epic active #Challenge150 with his mum Samantha and big brother Ben.

The trio will cover a massive 150,000 steps in honour of the hospital’s 150 years, across 10 walks between April and August 2019.

Joshua is counting 15,000 steps per walk, and taking pictures of his walking adventures. So far, they have walked from Battlesbridge to Rawreth in Essex, and did a town-tour of Rye, Sussex, where Joshua enjoyed hearing local ghost stories!

Having stayed the Evelina London twice for treatment for a ‘terrible triad’ (a combination of fractures) injury to his right elbow, Joshua explains why the challenge is important to him.

‘I broke my elbow, and stayed there twice, and they did two operations on me. They were very nice. When I was walking around the hospital, I saw the 150 year posters, and wanted to join in.’

‘I'm fundraising so that they can buy more stuff to make people feel better, and get their injuries healed… it’s nice to have other things to play with at the hospital like you would have at your house.’

Getting family involved and keeping fit also inspired Joshua to step up to the fundraising challenge.

‘My brother Ben is helping me too. It's good to do something that is also healthy as a sponsorship.’

Being active is important to Joshua, who is into gym and karate too. Whether it's an exercise challenge or something completely different, Joshua has some wise words for anyone thinking about getting started.

‘Just do it - the fundraising page is easy. If you want to give up, just remember why you are doing it.’

Joshua has already raised over £600 through his fundraising page.
