Jack was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), which is a birth defect that impacts normal blood flow through the heart, where the left side does not form correctly as the baby develops during pregnancy.

Jack had his first open heart surgery at two days old, and a further two open-heart surgeries at three and five months respectively. He was an inpatient between Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Savannah Cardiac Ward for six months. During this time, he had three cardiac arrests and three mini strokes, but was looked after by staff throughout his ordeal at Evelina London, where he is due to have further open-heart surgery in the near future.

Fiona said of the team:

"Every member of staff was amazing and their care and expertise was outstanding, which has inspired us to want to give something back to Evelina London."
