About us

Every year, Evelina London helps 95,000 children and young people to live their best lives by providing essential child- and family- centred care and support.

Although many children come from London and the South East, we are a hospital without boundaries – caring for children from across the UK and around the world. Through working with local communities and forming partnerships with hospitals across the UK, we also ensure that children receive our care beyond the walls of the hospital – in their homes and local communities.

While the NHS meets the day-to-day costs of running the hospital, every pound you raise will go towards taking our care for sick children to the next level. From funding life-saving research and state-of-the-art medical equipment, to the vital support that helps make a stay in hospital less scary, the money you raise will ensure we can continue to help children live their best lives today and tomorrow.

Evelina London’s history: A hospital born out of love

Although our current home, sitting alongside St Thomas’ Hospital, opened in 2005, the hospital is actually over 150 years old. Evelina London Hospital for Sick Children opened in 1869 on Southwark Bridge Road, not too far from our current home. It was founded by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild – in memory of his much-loved wife, Evelina and their baby who tragically lost their lives during a premature labour. Since then, the hospital has helped transform the lives of children and families and with your support we will continue this legacy.
