Putting the fun into fundraising!
We had a fabulously fun time on Saturday 13 September as hundreds of people turned up to our first ever Family Fun Day at the Kia Oval, home of Evelina London supporters Surrey County Cricket Club.
The day kicked off energetically, as almost 100 competitors arrived early to take part in a 5k fun run. Individual runners, teams and entire families joined in, with supporters of all ages donning their running shoes to raise money – including Evelina London Clinical Director Grenville Fox.
Surrey County Cricket Club mascot Caesar the Lion led the group warm-up, and when the starting horn blasted, the runners set off to uproarious cheers.
The 5K distance was made up of seven laps of the Oval, with the final stretch on the famous cricket pitch. Some people ran, some walked, and some even scootered to complete the distance,
and it was fantastic to have Surrey cricketers Tim Linley and Freddy van den Bergh there, running too and congratulating all our runners at the end. Each heroic fundraiser received a medal and certificate in honour of their brilliant achievement. After much celebrations on the finish line, the excitement continued as the rest of the Fun Day began!
Children of all ages enjoyed the go-karts, bouncy castles, bubbles, face-painting, and had fun with games including Hook a Duck and Hoopla. Visiting animals from nearby Vauxhall City Farm proved popular, as did Balfour Beatty’s building challenges – although many kids enjoyed just hiding inside the cardboard boxes!
There was also a Scootathon for our supporters aged between three and 11, who raced round our course to cheers and applause, and all received a finishers’ medal for their efforts.
And our Wall of Promises filled up with lots of ideas for raising much needed funds for Evelina London in the months to come – we look forward to supporting all our keen runners, cyclists, bakers and abseilers!
We’d like to thank everybody who came down to the Kia Oval and helped make our Family Fun Day such a success. You can see more pictures on our Facebook page - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
We’re still counting, but so far we’re on track to hitting our target of nearly £15,000 – an incredible achievement, and only possible thanks to many staff from Evelina London who gave up their Saturday to help out. Thank you!
If you'd like to volunteer at our future events, we've got lots of opportunities for you. Find out how you can become a volunteer.
