Where the money will go

Where the money will go

Evelina London is the only children’s hospital in England to date to be awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission.

We are a local children’s hospital for South London, as well as a national specialist referral centre for rare and complex children’s conditions, such as cardiology, neurology, metabolic disorders, and renal failure.

Evelina London has an excellent record of research activity, which is both nationally and globally recognised. We are one of the top performing children’s hospitals nationally in recruitment to clinical research studies and at the forefront of using science to improve the quality of clinical care and outcomes for children.

Creating Evelina London’s first dedicated Clinical Research Facility for children

Evelina London, with its unique combination of community and specialist children’s services, co-located within a large adult teaching hospital and academic health sciences centre, is ideally situated to be a leading centre for research.

Currently Evelina London does not have a dedicated children’s Clinical Research Facility (CRF). This heavily restricts our ability to grow our clinical trials and research programmes. Despite such a high volume of patients with a variety of common disease, as well as more complex conditions, without a CRF we are missing out on research opportunities. A dedicated CRF for children’s clinical research will support the hospital to sustain current research studies and enable our clinicians and researchers to grow their research activity.

The new CRF will allow our researchers and clinicians to pioneer more life-saving procedures, to improve diagnostics methods, and to understand more about childhood disease. A purpose-built CRF will bring together expertise from across the hospital in a collaborative environment, to further develop our position as a leading UK children’s research centre.

We plan to create flexible spaces that can be used for research across the hospital. The new facilities will include individual consulting and day care rooms, playrooms and welcoming reception areas.

We need £2.7m to drive forward research in child health

By bringing together clinical teams and researchers in a fit for purpose space, we will drive forward research in child health. The new facility will be designed in a child-friendly way to welcome our young recruits and their families, whose participation in studies are absolutely crucial in improving our understanding of diseases, developing better treatments, and giving hope to sick children in the future.
